Who should stay and who should go?

Well we may not have the HUGE puppy parties down here in Alabama, but we can still have fun. ;-) My friend Heidi brought over her 2 babies tonite for evaluation. We did temperament testing on them, stacked them up again, drank some wine to see if they looked any different after a glass. Or two. Hopefully she doesn’t mind me posting her babies on here.

I know she’s having a hard time deciding, and I don’t blame her. These are Fudge puppies by the way, out of her girl Dixie. Both of these pups are clearly better than their mother. But which to keep? Black boy, or blue girl?

Blue girl has a better temperament, although they’re both very fun. They both love and adore people, and were not swayed in the least by my (sometimes cranky) toddler. Both are generally bold and will have fun show personalities. Blue girl is a bit more independent, but also more confident. Black boy isn’t so sure about stranger dogs, and is just a touch more timid about strange noises etc…but he’s also less independent and more likely to plant himself in your lap. He’s also a very annoying barker and whiner LOL.

Anywho. Opinions? They are 1 day younger than Alice’s babies. (I think) No, the black boy doesn’t knuckle over, he just happens to be lifting that paw in both of his nicest stacked photos.

Both are DERN cute puppies… but based on personality, my first instinct is to keep the girl…. it helps that she’s damned cute :) Both are nicely put together puppies (or so it appears).
Personally, I’d be tempted to do as Jennifer Roberson did with Gryphon and Panda… keep them both.. grow them both and show one at a time (which ever looks better first) until such time that the PERFECT home comes along for one of them… Hats off to a nice litter… and yes, they both are an improvement on their mama in my opinion ;-)

Send me the blue girl ;) I’ve only been looking for one for, um, years…

Both have nice features but she has better length and chest shape and shoulder angle I think. He has incredible bone and topline. What’s his tailset like?

Overall they look very nice. Grats to Heidi!

Black boy’s tailset is high. Not ridiculously so, but high, and he usually carries it up.

Black boy’s movement is a lot better. The blue girl is still really roly-poly. And I think what the pictures don’t show is that she’s a bit wide in front (although I think it will come in), and also wide in rear (which is a fault her momma has in spades). I’ve added another picture of her front.

They both get my vote in the cute department!
I’m still learning these things, but it does sound like personality wise the girl has that going for her, and her topline is magnificient in the side photo.
Were there only 2 pups in this litter??

Hmmm…seems I’m the only one who liked the looks of the boy better. I’d be concerned about his tail, though. The topline, front, and hocks were the sellers for me. Of course, he doesn’t have her flash and will have difficulty being black without the strong show personality…wonder how I know that! Overall quality seems pretty darn good on these two from pictures. They’ll probably both do well, but her color/flash will probably help her win more.

No I think he has a great show personality. He’s very up and will be sparkly in the ring. He’s just a little more cautious than his sister when it comes to somewhat “scary” things like bigger strange dogs, and sharp noises. He recovers quickly so I don’t think he’ll be spooky, she’d just probably have to socialize him more and he may never be the kind of dog you can just throw in with strange dogs.

Oh gosh their cute! I have no idea about tails and temperments, but I think she should keep them both…I mean look at their wittle puppy eyes!

Seems one of my comments didn’t show up….. I had posted in response to Richelle about the boy dog…. I said that you could ask Jeri… when I first saw the puppies, i Ooh’d and Aah’d on the boy puppy…. they’re both DANG cute and both quite nice. Heidi is lucky to have to make such a decision ;-) Especially since there were only 2 puppies ;-)

What? She can’t keep them both? I’d be tempted, or at least leave one with Aunt Jeri, so he/she is close by. ;-)

From the photos I like the black guy. Just something in the way he is looking at the camera. Inquisitive, yet not over powering. And I like his topline better. Helps that he is a better mover too, that you said in the comments.

Love the black around both of the girls eyes. Wonder what that will look like as she grows? Also wondering if based on your description of her temperment if she will grow up to be pushy and more likely to cause a shake up among her other dogs as she gets close to being an adult. I guess the other thing that comes to my mind is where does she want to go with the next generation(s). Which one has the qualities that she want to bring in, or lacks the faults she’s trying to breed away from. Although, in the end, I’m with everybody that said keep them both!! They’re both such little darlings! Glad I’m not the one having to try to decide!

I am no puppy expert but something about the blue girl…her markings are very flashy and from the sounds of it has the personality to match!
