Dixie (Lizzie’s breeder) and I have been discussing sires for a summer litter with Lizzie next year. We have different tastes at times, so finding a single dog to agree on isn’t always easy! LOL But Dixie gets a puppy also, and was nice enough to sell me this lovely little girl, so we will capitalize on our common ground.

Since her Mom was (if I remember right) a brindle and this boy is a brindle does that mean you are hoping/getting brindles? And I’ve never met Lizzie in person, but would I be wrong in thinking she was also a brindle? I don’t know enough about it all…

LOL Lizzie is considered black & white with brindle points. So she's a black. Cool thing about blacks is that they can be bred to any color! If I wanted blue merle puppies I could find a blue boy for her (merle isn't my thing, though).
But yes, her mom is a brindle, a bright red brindle like this boy, Eli. Brindle is my first love and I want another one! LOL I *think* this breeding could produce brindles and reds, because I don't believe that Eli carries black at all. So none of the puppies would be black like Lizzie.

I was confused cause I kinda considered her ‘black’ too but the brindle points kindof threw me
I’m learning!
And I hear you on the brindles…. I was quite taken with Digger the couple times I met him

It is hard deciding on a stud dog isn’t it. Last fall and winter when I was doing this I had a whole line up of dream dogs. It was really interesting to do the research on the dogs that I liked. To look at the progeny and see what the pups seemed to have gotten from the father was really interesting.
Enjoy the process!

No, Eli doesn’t carry black. And they may be able to balance out faults/virtues well.
And while I have never been a “fan” he’s a good dog and has held together VERY well. Of course we have one of (IMO) his best offspring in Alice
Lizzie has a strong enough “pretty” behind her to correct the major thing that’s kicking me in the behind with Alice and her Hannah.

The quality of Alice and her offspring definitely helped sway my opinion.
And no, I’ve never been a huge fan but I don’t dislike him at all…he’s a darn nice dog. I wasn’t really thinking about him at first because Dixie was pretty sure she was going to take Lizzie’s sister to him. She’s reconsidered and thinks that Lizzie would suit him better because she has more substance. Eli has very good health history behind him for this breed, he looks great as a veteran, and he’s a proven sire. Sooo, no I’m not disappointed at all. My only concern is the lack of pretty thing. Maybe we’ll get lucky and get that pretty brindle color, since Lilly is such a pretty red brindle too….!

Yea, the only thing I really don’t like about Eli is his head and his propensity to throw his head… but you’re right.. he HAS held together incredibly well, and even at the 07 Nationals still moved around the ring like he owned it!
Tho I thought I had heard he was sterile…. ? we all know how dog gossip spreads… so it may well be the farthest from the truth… but I thought I heard that when the Smiths were trying to breed Autumn to him for her first litter…. I’m sure Dixie would know better though.. Good luck though
There are a lot of nice nice things about him!!!!

It would be a frozen breeding.
Dixie owns tubes from him.

That is as romantic as it gets, right there
‘frozen breeding’

Choosing a stud dog is a big pain. I remember trying for 2 years to pick the right dog for my GSP Windy, I went back and forth for months. Always pluses and minus. Poor Lizzard no doggy porn for her, just a frozen tube.

Doggie porn isn’t all it’s cracked up to be on the girl’s end: ask Hannah.
I like breeding to old dogs who have held up and not gone down.
While Eli himself doesn’t have that much substance, Alice certainly threw it.
And hopefully you’ll get some pretty red brindles. Love red brindles. Of course I love my little chocolate-colored Eli granddaughter too . . .

Choosing the right stud dog is one of the hardest decisions a breeder can make! You study, read, look, study some more and then finally decide. Then you fret about the decision after the breeding is done and until the puppies come. Whew – thank goodness puppy breath makes it all worth while!
